Equine Assisted Learning Sessions

Our EAL coaches can help you identify and achieve your goals, whether personal or professional. We'll work with you to develop a plan to overcome obstacles and achieve success in all areas of your life. Some places are available at reduced price, all sessions are bespoke and cost from £40, please contact us for an initial consultation.

Hoof Care

Our farrier Hannah Bain comes roughly every six week to see the herd. They are all kept barefoot and are all extremely individual with their needs. This can cost us from £70 upwards.

Equine Dentist

Hay, Feed and Bedding

Our Equine Dentist, Mark Twigg comes over onto the island once every 6 months. He and son Michael now stay with us whilst on the island which is usually a few nights as there are a lot of horses here. Charges are approximately £40 per horse.

Hay, Feed and Bedding

All of the hay we use is imported onto the island by Ironside & Son from Gamrie, Aberdeenshire. These cost £7.90 per small bale which are manageable for us on the croft and in the barn. Feed and bedding are also imported from the mainland. Bedding is roughly £15 a bale. Our feed ranges from £10 - £50 per bag, we use about 6 different types of feed for the herd as they differ in age, health, needs and preference!

We graze our herd on a number of crofts on the westside of Lewis and maintain these for our crofting benefactors the best we can. All fencing materials are imported but we source from local suppliers. We've also started to recycle fish farm pipes as excellent electric fence posts illustrated above. We use conservation grazing methods, maintaining the grazing by mowing reeds, harrowing and fertilizing which is ongoing work that supports the herd and the land.
